IEC/BS Standard 3.8-6.6kV-XLPE Insulated MV Middle Voltage Power Cable
IEC/BS 3.8/6.6kV XLPE-insulated medium-voltage (MV) power cables are standard cables specifically designed for distribution networks.
These cables are manufactured in accordance with International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and British Standards (BS) specifications.
3.8/6.6kV is a voltage rating more commonly associated with British standards, notably both BS6622 and BS7835 specifications, where applications can benefit from the mechanical protection provided by their aluminium wire or steel wire armour (depending on single core or three core configurations). Such cables would be well suited to fixed installations and providing power to heavy-duty static equipment as their rigid construction limits the bend radius. -
IEC/BS Standard 6.35-11kV-XLPE Insulated MV Middle Voltage Power Cable
IEC/BS Standard 6.35-11kV XLPE-insulated medium-voltage power cables are suitable for use in medium-voltage power distribution networks.
Electric cable with copper conductors, semi conductive conductor screen, XLPE insulation, semi conductive insulation screen, copper tape metallic screen of each core, PVC bedding, galvanized steel wires armour (SWA) and PVC outer sheath. For energy networks where mechanical stresses are expected. Suitable for underground installation or in ducts. -
IEC/BS Standard 6-10kV-XLPE Insulated MV Middle Voltage Power Cable
IEC/BS 6-10kV XLPE-insulated medium-voltage (MV) power cables comply with standards such as IEC 60502-2 for XLPE-insulated cables and BS 6622 for armoured cables.
The conductors utilise XLPE to achieve excellent electrical insulation and thermal insulation. -
IEC/BS Standard 8.7-15kV-XLPE Insulated MV Middle Voltage Power Cable
8.7/15kV XLPE-insulated medium-voltage (MV) power cables are specifically designed for power transmission and distribution networks.
This medium-voltage cable complies with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards and British Standards (BS).
8.7/15kV, indicating suitability for systems with a maximum operating voltage of 15kV. 15kV is a voltage commonly specified for equipment cables, including robust Mining equipment cables, manufactured in accordance with IEC 60502-2, but is also associated with British standard armoured cables. Whilst mining cables may be sheathed in a robust Rubber to provide abrasion resistance, especially for trailing applications, the BS6622 and BS7835 standard cables are instead sheathed in PVC or LSZH materials, with mechanical protection provided from a layer of steel wire armouring. -
IEC/BS Standard 12.7-22kV-XLPE Insulated MV Middle Voltage Power Cable
Suitable for energy networks such as power stations. For installation in ducts, underground and outdoor.
The cables made to BS6622 and BS7835 are generally supplied with Copper conductors with Class 2 rigid stranding. Single core cables have aluminium wire armour (AWA) to prevent induced current in the armour, whilst the multicore cables have steel wire armour (SWA) providing the mechanical protection. These are round wires that provide over 90% coverage.
Please note: Red outer sheath can be prone to fading when exposed to UV rays.

IEC/BS Standard 18-30kV-XLPE Insulated MV Middle Voltage Power Cable
18/30kV XLPE-insulated medium-voltage (MV) power cables are specifically designed for distribution applications.
Cross-linked polyethylene provides the cables with excellent electrical insulation and thermal insulation. -
IEC/BS Standard 19-33kV-XLPE Insulated MV Middle Voltage Power Cable
IEC/BS Standard 19/33kV XLPE-insulated MV power cables comply with International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and British Standards (BS) specifications.
IEC 60502-2: Specifies the construction, dimensions and tests for extruded insulated power cables up to 30 kV.
BS 6622: Applies to thermoset insulated armoured cables for voltages of 19/33 kV. -
IEC BS Standard 12-20kV-XLPE Insulated PVC sheathed MV Power Cable
Suitable for energy networks such as power stations. For installation in ducts, underground and outdoor.
There’s huge variations in construction, standards and the materials used – specifying the correct MV cable for a project is a matter of balancing the performance requirements, installation demands, and environmental challenges, and then ensuring cable, industry, and regulatory compliance. With the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) defining Medium Voltage cables as having a voltage rating of above 1kV up to 100kV that’s a broad voltage range to consider. It’s more common to think as we do in terms of 3.3kV to 35kV, before it becomes high voltage. We can support cable specifications in all voltages.
